Designed by Bruce Kilgore and released on 14 February 2024 as part of Nike's Air Force 1 line. This release has a silk upper in Metallic Gold/Lilac. The Air Force 1 became a status symbol in urban and hip hop fashion from the 1980s onward and never really left, which is why Nike treats it as a canvas for the calendar rather than a shoe that needs updating. This women's '07 is a Year of the Dragon edition, part of the lunar new year tradition where the silhouette gets decorated for a specific animal year rather than a team or a city. That is a meaningful shift for a brand founded in Eugene, Oregon in 1964 by a track coach and his former runner: the AF1 is now global vocabulary, and the dragon build is Nike writing in someone else's script rather than exporting its own.
Detailed AF1s want quiet clothes around them. Recipe one: black straight-leg denim, a plain white tee, and a black bomber, so the dragon detailing is the only ornament in the outfit. Recipe two: a long charcoal wool coat over a black knit dress with opaque tights, where a chunky white-based sneaker cuts the formality and the special edition trim reads as jewellery. Air Force 1s run roughly half a size large, so size down half if you want a clean fit. Clean the midsole with a soft brush and a mild solution rather than bleach, keep embroidered or printed panels away from harsh solvents entirely, and let them dry at room temperature so the leather does not stiffen.
Nike's cultural authority came from making its products into shared property rather than sporting goods, and Just Do It, written by Dan Wieden in 1988 and first aired on 1 July that year with 80 year old runner Walt Stack, was the line that turned a shoe company into a voice. Advertising Age later named it one of the top five slogans of the twentieth century and the Smithsonian holds it. A lunar new year Air Force 1 is that logic run in reverse, a global brand borrowing a local calendar. It works because the AF1 was never really Nike's shoe after the 1980s. It belonged to whoever wore it first, everywhere it landed.
The '07 is the standard modern Air Force 1 Low build: a thick leather upper over a chunky rubber cupsole, with a pivot circle at the forefoot, a moulded ankle collar and the metal-tipped deubre lace dubrae at the throat. Nike Air sits sealed inside the midsole, the pressurised gas unit that gave the shoe its name and its ride, invisible here rather than exposed as it became on the 1987 Air Max. Special edition dragon builds typically carry extra detailing across the collar, tongue and heel, which means more surface texture to keep clean than a standard white pair. The women's last is cut slimmer through the midfoot and the whole thing remains a heavy, flat, protective shoe.
