Designed by Bruce Kilgore and part of Nike's Air Force 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Team Red/Black/White/Siren Red. Nike's first endorsement was not a team, a league or a city. It was a person: the tennis player Ilie Nastase, the first professional athlete the company put its name behind, followed by Steve Prefontaine on the track. That is worth remembering on a shoe called Love for All, because love arrives in sport as a tennis term before it arrives as a slogan. This is the women's Air Force 1 Low, the plainest and most adopted silhouette Nike makes, carrying a message rather than a technology. The company has been in this position since its shoes became social objects in the 1980s, worn to say something about the wearer long before they were worn to play anything.
Wear one: light denim, a white tee and a soft cardigan, letting the message detailing be the only decorative element in the outfit. Wear two: black cropped trousers with a fine knit, dressing the shoe up so it reads as deliberate rather than casual by default. Air Force 1s run large and the women's last is narrower, so most people go half a size down. Protect before first wear, then keep maintenance at the seams where dirt actually collects, using a soft brush and mild solution. Keep embroidery dry, avoid solvents near printed panels, and store the spare laces, since message releases lose value without their extras.
Nike has learned in public that putting a position on a product is not free. When it built a long term campaign around Colin Kaepernick from September 2018 after he knelt during the US national anthem, the reaction included product burnings and condemnation from a police union, alongside public support from LeBron James and Serena Williams. The company also withdrew a Betsy Ross flag Air Max 1 in July 2019 after Kaepernick objected. A shoe that says love for all is a gentler statement than any of that, but it lives in the same territory: a mass market sneaker used as a place to say something, which people will read closely whether or not you meant them to.
The women's Air Force 1 Low uses the same cupsole platform with Nike Air, a pressurised gas unit sealed in the midsole, on a women's last, which changes heel volume and midfoot width rather than the architecture. The upper is layered panels, perforated across the toe, with a padded collar and a stitched Swoosh. Message led releases carry their content in the finishing: embroidery, contrast stitching, printed liners, marked tongue labels, alternate lace sets. Inspect those first, because they are the only parts of the shoe that will not be identical to the millions of Air Force 1s already on the street, and they are the parts that determine how the pair ages.
