Designed by Peter Moore and part of Nike's Dunk line. This release has a leather upper in White/Alabaster. Nike Grind is the part of the company that turns manufacturing scrap and worn out shoes back into new product and playing surfaces, and Next Nature is the Dunk built on that thinking. This women's pair runs it in Alabaster, an off white with warmth in it rather than a clinical white, which suits a shoe whose materials are meant to look recovered rather than synthetic. Nike also went outside itself for material science here in spirit, the same way it partnered with Newlight Technologies in 2021 on AirCarbon bioplastic. The result is a Dunk Low that keeps the familiar panel blocking and the Swoosh Carolyn Davidson drew in 1971, but asks you to notice what it is made of instead of what it is referencing.
Alabaster is a neutral that flatters warm palettes, so build around cream, tan and rust rather than stark white. Recipe one: wide leg ecru trousers, a fitted rib knit, and a camel overshirt, which keeps everything in the same warm family. Recipe two: light wash straight jeans with an oversized grey hoodie, letting the off white read as the soft point in the outfit. This is a daytime, walk a lot shoe: campus, cafes, travel. Size as you would any Dunk Low but try a half up if you wear thick socks, because the women's cut is narrow. Protect with a water repellent spray before first wear, spot clean with a damp cloth, and air dry away from sun so the off white does not yellow.
Nike's environmental line lands differently depending on where you stand, and the honest framing is that Nike Grind is a real recycling programme, not a slogan. The brand has always been more comfortable making a value into a voice: Just Do It, written by Dan Wieden in 1988, worked as a device long before it was a tagline, and the September 2018 Colin Kaepernick campaign showed Nike will build a long term campaign around a position and absorb the backlash. Next Nature is a quieter version of the same instinct, putting the argument into the material instead of into the advertising, and letting an off white Dunk make the point on the shelf.
The Next Nature label is about content rather than a new silhouette, so what changes is surface, not shape. Expect panels with visible flecking and a slightly matte hand, because reclaimed material carries its history in the finish. Read that as a feature: no two pairs speckle identically. Alabaster is a soft, low glare white, which means it hides early creasing better than a bright white but shows dirt at the toe box quickly. Underneath, the Dunk Low's flat forefoot and rubber tread follow the outsole logic Bowerman started when he poured rubber into a waffle iron chasing grip and lightness. Break in is short. The women's last runs narrower through the midfoot than the standard cut, so a snug first wear is normal.
