Released on 14 December 2023 and part of Nike's Dunk SB line. This release has a suede upper in Mean Green/Black/Lotus Pink. This one starts a long way from a cartoon. Nike began in 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports, a distribution outfit run by Oregon track coach Bill Bowerman and his former runner Phil Knight, selling Japanese running shoes out of a car boot at track meets. The Swoosh came later, first used in June 1971, drawn by a graphic design student named Carolyn Davidson. Decades on, that mark sits on a pre school kids Dunk Low built for Nike SB, the skate side of the house, and dressed in the green of Buttercup, the toughest of the Powerpuff Girls. The joke lands because the Dunk Low has spent its life crossing over: court shoe to skate shoe to playground shoe. Buttercup green makes it a character piece a small kid actually understands.
Two ways to run it. First, the pure character fit: green joggers or leggings, a plain white tee, and let the shoe be the loudest thing on the kid. Second, the neutral frame: denim shorts or dark jeans, a grey or cream sweatshirt, so the Buttercup green reads as an accent rather than a costume. It suits school runs, birthday parties and weekend play, and it will be worn hard, which is the point. Size with a thumb of growing room but not more, because a loose low top slides at the heel and a child will trip on it. Wipe leather panels with a damp cloth and mild soap, brush suede dry, keep the pair out of the washing machine, and air dry away from radiators.
Nike became a youth uniform through basketball and hip hop, and Dunks and Air Force 1s turned into staples of mainstream American dress before circling back through the casual and athleisure eras. Character collaborations are the kids version of that same logic: the shoe carries a story the wearer already knows. Nike SB has form here, and not always comfortably. Its 2005 use of Minor Threat album art drew a public rebuke from Ian MacKaye and an apology from Nike, a reminder that borrowed imagery carries obligations. A licensed Powerpuff Girls Dunk is the sanctioned, sunnier version of that instinct: pop culture the brand has permission to use, sized down for the smallest customer in the room.

This is a low cut Dunk in the Nike SB build, sized for pre school feet, in a Buttercup green scheme with the character theming that comes with a licensed release. Nike SB shoes are made to survive being scuffed against grip tape, which for a child means a shoe that can take scooters, gravel and playground concrete. The Swoosh is a structural panel here as much as a logo, wrapping the midfoot. Nike Grind, the programme that puts manufacturing scrap and worn shoes back into new product and surfaces, is the reason a brand this size thinks about what happens after a kid outgrows a pair. Expect a straightforward hook and loop or elastic entry appropriate to the pre school size run.
