Released on 1 June 2025 and part of the Mexico 66 line. This release has a leather upper in Off White/Spruce Green. Off White Spruce Green is the SD build wearing the most outdoors colour in the range. Spruce is a cool, blue leaning green, darker than sage and cleaner than olive, and it runs the crossed Tiger Stripes against an off white body that has been kept warm rather than optic. The base shape goes back to 1966, when Onitsuka built the Mexico line to compete with Adidas and Puma ahead of the 1968 Mexico City Games and gave it the stripe device that became the house mark. Cool green on warm white is a quietly difficult combination to get right, and it is the reason this pair looks considered rather than seasonal.
Two recipes. First, off white heavy cotton trousers with a spruce green overshirt and a white tee, a tonal fit where the shoe and the shirt agree exactly. Second, dark brown corduroys with a cream knit, using the green as a cool counterweight to the warm brown. This colourway works best from late summer through autumn and looks better with a slight trouser break than with a crop. Take your usual size in the narrow, slightly long last. Brush the off white panels dry, use a colourless conditioner so the white does not yellow, and keep the green leather fed so it does not chalk at the flex points.
Onitsuka Tiger's revival in 2002 turned a dormant sports name into a fashion label, and the wider range now reflects that: Nippon Made is the top tier line built in Japan with specialised leather treatment and Japanese craft finishing, The Onitsuka covers formal leather, and the label runs apparel, bags, denim, accessories and fragrance around the footwear. SD colourways in considered greens belong to that world rather than to a sports floor. The model's return to the centre of sneaker culture since the early 2020s, on the back of the move toward slim, low profile silhouettes, is what makes a green this specific commercially possible.
Slim toed, narrow lasted, low profile, with a thin cupsole and Tiger Stripes stitched across the quarter as structural panels rather than applied graphics. The SD execution is the more finished version of that architecture, so the panel edges and stitching are the details worth looking at. Spruce green holds its depth well on leather and hides scuffing, while the off white body creases at the toe early and shows dust along the sole edge first. There is no meaningful cushioning and no arch structure. What you get instead is a shoe that flexes with the foot from day one and sits low enough to disappear under a trouser hem.
