YEEZY BOOST 350 V2 Yecheil Reflective
YEEZY BOOST 350 V2 Yecheil Reflective
Culture Note™️ / ملاحظة الثقافة
Origin
Designed by Kanye West and released on 19 December 2019 as part of the Yeezy Boost 350 line. This release has a primeknit upper in Yecheil/Yecheil/Yecheil. The Boost 350 V2 arrived on 24 September 2016 as the follow up to the 350 that released on 27 June 2015, and it became the silhouette most people picture when they hear the word Yeezy. Yecheil is the pair that broke the house rules. Where the line had spent years on monochrome earth tones named after terrain, Pirate Black, Oxford Tan, Turtle Dove, Beluga, this one runs a busy multicolour knit of green, red, blue and cream threads across the whole upper. The reflective version threads reflective yarn through that same pattern, so the shoe stays quiet in daylight and lights up under a camera flash or headlights. It is the 350 V2 at its most maximal, and deliberately so.
Utility
The multicolour knit is loud, so treat it as the single statement in the fit. Recipe one: straight leg raw denim cropped at the ankle, a plain white tee and an unstructured black jacket, letting the pattern be the only colour in play. Recipe two: black technical trousers with a cinched hem and a cream knit, which lets the green and red threads read as an accent rather than a clash. Avoid patterned tops entirely. The reflective yarn is the reason to wear these out at night, where flash photography and street lighting do the work. Primeknit stretches with wear, so take your usual size, and lace them slightly looser than feels right, since the knit needs room to move. Spot clean with cold water and a soft brush, and never machine wash a Boost midsole.
Influence
Yecheil landed when the 350 V2 was one of the most recognisable silhouettes of the decade, a shoe GQ had already called the most influential of its moment, and when Yeezy releases were routinely the highest volume sneaker events of the year. The line generated roughly two billion dollars a year for adidas at its peak. That partnership ended on 25 October 2022, when adidas terminated it after antisemitic public remarks by founder Kanye West, stating the comments and actions were unacceptable, hateful and dangerous and violated its values. What remains is a silhouette that shaped a decade of sneaker design and a resale market that still prices reflective versions above their standard counterparts.
Construction
The upper is Primeknit, the one piece machine knitted construction that gives the 350 its sock like fit with no traditional cut and sewn panels. That single piece is why the multicolour pattern can run continuously from toe to heel without breaking at a seam. Underneath sits adidas Boost, the expanded TPU pellet midsole foam that gives the model its bounce and its speckled look, encased here so the pellets read as texture rather than decoration. The reflective build swaps in yarn with a retroreflective core, so the effect is woven into the knit rather than printed on top. A pull tab at the heel does the work of getting you in, and there is no visible branding anywhere on the shoe.
