Released on 24 November 2024 and part of the Adilette 22 line. This release has a synthetic upper in Alumina/Oat/Off White. Alumina Oat is the Adilette 22 in full neutral, a warm greyish beige that runs across the entire slide with no contrast band and no colour break. That flatness is the point. The 22 is a sculpted, one piece rethink of the oldest continuous product idea adidas has, and a tonal earth colour lets you read the geology of the shape: the ridged deck, the raised sidewalls, the Three Stripes cut into the strap instead of laid over it. Those stripes are the mark adidas bought from Karhu Sports in 1952 rather than invented, and Adi Dassler spent the rest of his life calling the company the three stripes company.
Neutral slides are a wardrobe tool. Recipe one: linen shorts in cream or khaki with an unbuttoned camp collar shirt, where the oat tone disappears into a warm summer palette and the slide reads as considered rather than lazy. Recipe two: black or charcoal loose trousers with a white tee, where the pale slide breaks up the bottom of a dark outfit. Perfect for airports, hotel corridors, monsoon errands and the walk to the gym. Slides run generous, so size down if you dislike heel overhang. Rinse with plain water after beach or pool use, dry in shade, and lift stubborn marks with mild soap and a soft cloth rather than a stiff brush.
In India adidas has run the market with local faces rather than imported ones, signing Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh as ambassador in 2015 and fronting a cricket campaign with Virat Kohli before he moved to Puma in 2017. Reported figures from 2018 put adidas at 436 company owned and franchise stores across the country. That distribution is why a slide like this is not a niche item here: it is the entry point to the brand for a huge number of buyers, worn for the same reasons everywhere, which is comfort, speed and a logo that reads instantly at a distance.
One continuous moulded body, band and footbed together, which removes every join that a strapped sandal would have to glue or rivet. The deck is contoured with ridges that keep a wet foot from sliding, and the sidewalls rise so your foot sits inside the slide rather than perched on it. Alumina Oat is a far more practical finish than a white version: dust, sand and the general grey of a city street disappear into it, so the slide looks the same on day sixty as day one. The debossed Three Stripes are cut into the strap, so there is no print to wear off and no applied logo to lift at the edges.
