Designed by Kanye West and released on 6 September 2021 as part of the Yeezy Slides line. This release has a eva upper in Pure/Pure/Pure. The Slide arrived in December 2019 as the most reductive thing the label ever made: one moulded shape, no laces, no logo, nothing to read. Pure is the colourway that states that argument most plainly, a pale off white that refuses even the warmth of Bone or the mud of Earth Brown. This is the 2021 re release, which matters because it tells you something about how the line worked by then. Demand had outrun the original run so completely that restocking a colourway was itself an event, with the same queues and the same instant sell through. Kanye West founded the label in 2013 pushing to be treated as a designer rather than a musician selling product, and a plain white slab of foam selling out in minutes is one measure of how far that argument got.
Utility
Near white foam is a summer piece and a home piece, not a rainy season piece. First recipe: cream or sand shorts, a white tee, bare feet, for heat and travel. Second recipe: grey sweatpants with a white crew sock and an oversized grey hoodie, which is the version most people actually wear it in. Occasion: airports, studio and work from home days, poolside, short errands. Fit runs large and wide, so sizing down one is the common recommendation, particularly for narrow feet. Care is the whole game on Pure: rinse under running water, wipe with a soft cloth and mild soap, use a melamine sponge gently on scuffs, air dry in shade rather than sun so the off white does not yellow, and accept that heavy street use will mark them.
Influence
The Slide and the Foam Runner are the two shapes that carried Yeezy out of sneaker culture and into general fashion, and the imitation that followed across the mass market was immediate and total. Pure in particular became the shorthand version, the one that appeared on people who had never queued for a sneaker in their life. That reach was built inside a partnership that adidas terminated on 25 October 2022 after Kanye West's antisemitic public remarks, which the company stated were unacceptable, hateful and dangerous and in violation of its values. Yeezy now operates independently through its own site, and adidas era slides like this circulate as remaining stock rather than as current product.
Construction
Injection moulded one piece construction, the same manufacturing logic behind the Foam Runner, means there is no upper joined to a sole here: the whole thing is a single moulded object with the footbed contoured into it. Nothing is stitched, so nothing can come apart. Pure is coloured through the material rather than surface printed, which is important on a near white shoe because scuffs read as texture instead of exposing a different colour underneath. Expect a firm platform that softens with wear, a generous width, and a strap band that holds by tension rather than adjustment. There is no logo anywhere, so the silhouette is the only identifier, which is exactly the anti branding position the line took across most of its footwear.
