Released on 18 April 2024 and part of the ReactX Infinity Run line. This release has a flyknit upper in White/Bright Crimson/Total Orange/Black. Everything Nike is began with a running shoe complaint. Bill Bowerman coached track at the University of Oregon and thought American runners deserved lighter, better shoes than the domestic market offered, which is why he and Phil Knight started importing from Japan in 1964 and why he eventually poured rubber into his wife's waffle iron. The Infinity Run is the modern expression of that argument, a cushioned daily trainer built around support and repeatability rather than race day speed. This ReactX version arrives in the Wake Up Pack, in Bright Crimson, a colour chosen to be the first thing you see when the alarm goes and the last excuse you have left.
Bright Crimson is a colour that only works if you let it lead. Recipe one, for running: black tights or shorts, a black longsleeve and a reflective vest, so the shoe supplies the visibility and everything else stays out of the way. Recipe two, off duty: grey heavyweight sweatpants, a cream crewneck and a navy shell, where the crimson sits as the single warm accent at ground level. Size true to size and lace to a firm midfoot, since rockered platforms want a foot that stays centred. Wash the knit upper by hand with mild soap and a soft brush only, and air dry away from heat, which permanently deforms foam midsoles.
Nike's cultural entry ran through track first, with Steve Prefontaine, Bowerman's pupil at Oregon, becoming the brand's first track endorser and its lasting symbol of running as attitude rather than sport, commemorated with a statue at headquarters. The company later industrialised that attitude: ZoomX, an altered Pebax foam, was paired with a full length carbon fibre plate in the 2017 Vaporfly, and peer research found it could improve marathon times by up to 4.2 percent. World Athletics responded on 31 January 2020 with rules capping sole thickness at 40mm and permitting one rigid plate, and compliant Vaporfly models remain legal. A crimson daily trainer is the everyday inheritance of all that.
The Infinity Run's design brief is stability under fatigue. Expect a tall, wide foam platform with a rockered shape that carries you forward through the gait cycle, flared sidewalls to keep the foot centred, and a knit upper with an integrated collar that holds without pressure points. Nike's materials programme feeds directly into this: Flywire uses cables to lock the foot with minimal upper material, ZoomX is the lightest and most responsive foam in the range, and Dri-FIT is the moisture wicking fabric platform used through the running line. Bright Crimson saturates the upper so the shoe reads as one continuous block of colour, which flatters the rockered profile from the side.
