Part of the ReactX Rejuven8 Slide line. This release has a reactx upper in Marrakesh/Campfire Orange/Marrakesh. ReactX is Nike's foam platform applied to the least glamorous job in the catalogue, which is what makes the Rejuven8 interesting. Recovery footwear has no performance story to tell, no athlete to sell it and no race to win, so the only thing left is how it feels under a tired foot. That is actually the oldest brief in Nike's history: Bill Bowerman started pouring rubber into a waffle iron in Oregon because he believed the material under a runner mattered more than anything above it. Campfire Orange is the colourway that refuses to be discreet about any of this, a warm, burnt orange that treats a recovery slide as something you choose rather than something you settle for.
Burnt orange is loud, so use it where loud is fine. First recipe: black or charcoal shorts with a plain tee for gym exits, post training walks and hotel corridors, which is the actual purpose. Second: wide cream or sand trousers with an oversized white tee, worn sockless in summer, where the orange becomes a deliberate accent rather than an accident. Skip it for anything requiring a turn or a stair at speed, since a single band gives no lateral hold. Rinse with fresh water after pool or beach use because chlorine and salt degrade foam, dry it in shade to protect the colour, and clean the footbed with a damp cloth rather than soaking it.
Recovery wear travelled from locker rooms to streets because athletes wore it visibly and everyone else copied. Nike's credibility in that handover comes from an endorsement history that starts with Ilie Nastase as its first professional athlete endorser and Steve Prefontaine as its first track endorser, and runs through sponsored athletes including Michael Johnson and Allyson Felix, people whose relationship with footwear was entirely functional. The wider permission came from the same shift that turned Air Max models into staples of casual and athleisure dress: comfort stopped being an excuse. An orange recovery slide is that permission taken to its logical end, a shoe with no ambition other than feeling good.
A slide is a footbed, a platform and a band, so every element has to earn its place. The build here is a moulded footbed with contour built in, sitting on a ReactX foam platform, with a wide single strap across the forefoot doing all the retention. Nike's foam engineering runs from Lunarlite through to ZoomX in the Vaporfly, and the whole tradition is about tuning softness against rebound so a shoe does not simply collapse under weight. A recovery slide sits at the soft end of that scale. Campfire Orange is a saturated colour on a large foam surface, which means it shows dirt in the seams and will fade if you leave it baking in direct sun.
