Origin
Released on 19 October 2022 and part of adidas's Forum line. This release has a leather upper in Core Black/Core Black/Vivid Red. This is the Forum Low taken out of the gym and handed to nightlife. Circoloco is a party institution, and a shoe made with it is aimed at the hours between midnight and sunrise rather than at a basketball floor, which makes the Forum an odd and therefore interesting base: a 1980s adidas court shoe whose panelled leather and stitched Three Stripes were originally about lateral support. adidas has spent decades letting outside cultures rewrite its silhouettes, from hip hop adopting the Superstar wholesale to designers such as Jeremy Scott and Raf Simons taking apart Originals models. A club collaboration sits naturally in that lineage, because the brand's history is full of shoes that changed meaning when someone outside the company picked them up.
Utility
Recipe one, for the night it was made for: black technical trousers with a slim black knit and a light shell, so the shoe carries whatever colour or finish the collaboration put on it. adidas's cultural power has always come from adoption rather than assignment. Run-DMC wrote My Adidas unpaid, then at Madison Square Garden had thousands of people hold their shell toes in the air with adidas executive Angelo Anastasio in the crowd, and the endorsement deal that followed was the first between a musical act and an athletic company, a moment Questlove called hip hop's tipping point. Dance music culture arrived at adidas by a similar route, through terrace and casual dressing where the Superstar and the Stan Smith were the base layer. Construction
The Forum Low base gives you a leather led panelled upper, a padded tongue and collar, the Three Stripes stitched through the lateral sidewall where they reinforce as well as brand, and a rubber cupsole. adidas has treated the stripes as a structural element since buying the mark from Karhu Sports in 1952, and on a low cut leather shoe they still hold the panel geometry together. Collaboration versions of the Forum typically alter the materials, the branding hits and the colour treatment rather than the last, so the fit and the ride stay familiar. Without a confirmed production code on this row, the sensible read is that the silhouette behaves like a standard Forum Low underfoot: flat, firm and stable rather than cushioned.
