Designed by Tinker Hatfield and released on 9 September 2023 as part of the Air Jordan 4 line. This release has a leather upper in White/Fire Red/Black/Neutral Grey. Cement is the material code Tinker Hatfield gave this brand. When Nike handed the line to him after the first two models, he turned a basketball shoe into a design series with its own language, and the grey cracked elephant print he introduced on the Air Jordan III became the most recognisable pattern the house owns, now capable of signalling Jordan with no logo present at all. The Air Jordan 4 carries that code forward, and Red Cement flips the usual arrangement by making red the field the print sits against. This is the grade school run, style code 408452 161, which puts one of the line's most historically loaded shoes into younger sizing.
Red with grey wants a neutral outfit underneath. Black tapered joggers with a grey hoodie is the obvious and correct pairing, since the shoe supplies all the colour. The second option is mid wash denim with a white tee and a black cap, which keeps the red sporting rather than formal. Do not add another red item anywhere. The IV's bulk suits a slightly cropped or cuffed hem so the whole shoe is visible. Check grade school sizing carefully and allow growing room. Brush the cement print dry before any water touches it, keep the red panels out of long sunlight, and use a soft brush rather than a bleach based cleaner on the midsole.
Elephant print is now shorthand for Jordan Brand across the whole design world, which is why the collaboration programme keeps returning to it, from Off-White under Virgil Abloh to Comme des Garcons, Supreme and KAWS. The Air Jordan 4 in particular sits close to the brand's music history: Travis Scott has worked on the model under the Cactus Jack name, alongside his work on the 1 and the 6. Behind all of it is the culture built by Spike Lee's Nike advertising and by 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube and Jay-Z putting Jordan and his sneakers into records.
The IV's build is more architectural than the models before it, with visible support structures on the upper rather than a plain panelled leather shell, so the shoe reads as engineered rather than as classic. Red carries the main body while the cement grey print handles the accent areas, which is what keeps a bright colourway from becoming flat. Nike Air cushioning has been part of the line since the second model and remains the underfoot language here. GS sizing means grade school dimensions, so check the conversion against an adult chart before committing. The print traps grit in its texture, so clean it dry first, and expect toe creasing where the upper flexes.
