Designed by Kanye West and released on 6 December 2019 as part of the Yeezy Slides line. This release has a rubber upper in Bone/Bone/Bone. Bone is the Slide colourway that became a category. The Slide arrived in December 2019 stripped of laces, logos and stitching, a single moulded shape that argued footwear could be reduced to one gesture, and Bone is the tone that made that argument palatable to everyone. It sits inside the label's material naming tradition, alongside Oxford Tan, Turtle Dove and Moonrock, describing a substance rather than a shade: pale, slightly warm, faintly organic. Within a short time this exact colour was being copied across every price tier of the market, which is a strange fate for a shoe with no branding at all. Kanye West founded the label in 2013 wanting to be treated as a designer, and Bone is probably the most imitated thing that ambition produced.
Utility
Bone flatters warm and neutral wardrobes, so lean into that. First recipe: sand or ecru linen trousers, a white oversized tee, bare feet, for genuine heat and travel. Second recipe: grey sweatpants with a thick cream ribbed sock and a grey hoodie, which is how most people actually wear them and turns a pool shoe into a winter house shoe. Occasion: airports, home, short errands, the end of a long day. Fit runs large and wide, so sizing down one is standard advice, particularly for narrow feet. Care: rinse under a tap, wipe with a soft cloth and mild soap, use a melamine sponge lightly on scuffs, air dry in shade so the pale tone does not yellow, and never machine wash.
Influence
The Slide and the Foam Runner are the two shapes that carried this design language out of sneaker culture and into general fashion, and Bone is the version that did most of the carrying. It ended up on people who had never queued for a drop, which is precisely why the mass market imitations arrived so fast and in such volume. That reach came from a partnership adidas terminated on 25 October 2022, after Kanye West's antisemitic public remarks, which the company stated were unacceptable, hateful and dangerous and violated its values. Yeezy now operates independently through its own site, and adidas era slides exist as remaining stock rather than as current product.
Construction
This is injection moulded one piece construction, the same process behind the Foam Runner, so the footbed, the body and the strap band are a single object rather than an upper joined to a sole. Nothing is stitched, nothing is glued, nothing can peel. Bone is coloured through the material, which matters on a pale shoe because scuffing shows as texture rather than exposing a contrasting layer. The band holds by tension rather than adjustment, so fit depends entirely on sizing. Expect a firm platform that softens with wear and a generous width. There is no logo anywhere, which is the anti branding position the line applied across almost its entire footwear range.
