Released on 18 June 2024 and part of the Jordan Jumpman Slide line. This release has a synthetic upper in Black/Black/Metallic Gold. Black with metallic gold is the palette a brand reaches for when it wants to say value without saying anything else, and on a slide it is the most economical statement Jordan Brand can make. The Jumpman, a silhouette of Jordan mid leap with legs split, created after Peter Moore had Jordan recreate the pose in Bulls gear, is the entire product here. There is no model number, no colourway heritage and no performance claim. A standalone division running since 1997 with its own apparel and accessories eventually reaches a point where the mark alone carries an object, and gold is how you signal that the mark is the point.
Two ways to wear it. First, poolside: barefoot with plain black shorts, letting the gold be the only shine anywhere, which is the context the palette was designed for. Second, evening casual: black trousers with a black tee and black socks, a look that only works if everything else is genuinely plain. Take the smaller size if you fall between two, since a loose strap on a slide causes uneven heel wear. Rinse after chlorine or salt, dry in shade because sun hardens and warps foam, keep them out of hot car boots, and never scrub the metallic detail.
Jordan Brand's move into luxury adjacency is documented in its collaboration list, which includes Dior alongside Off-White under Virgil Abloh, Comme des Garcons, Supreme and KAWS, and artists including Travis Scott, Drake, Billie Eilish, J Balvin, Eminem and Nicki Minaj. Gold on a Jumpman is the house version of that register, available without a draw. The underlying cultural credit was earned elsewhere, through Spike Lee directing and playing Mars Blackmon in the earliest advertising and through 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube and Jay-Z referencing the shoes, and it is what allows a slide to read as anything other than a slide.
A slide is a moulded footbed and a strap, and everything you need to judge is in those two parts: how the footbed is contoured, how securely the strap holds, and how quickly it dries. Gold on black keeps the branding legible while the base hides the marks that pool decks and gym floors leave behind. It is built to be worn barefoot, rinsed and worn again, and it should feel soft on the first step because foam has no break in period. Metallic detailing is the one part that needs care: it dulls if you scrub it, so rinse and wipe rather than brushing, and keep it away from abrasive surfaces.
