Origin
Designed by Kanye West and released on 20 September 2021 as part of the Yeezy Boost 700 line. This release has a nylon upper in Honey Flux/Honey Flux/Honey Flux. Honey Flux takes the stripped down MNVN version of the 700 and pours a warm amber over the whole thing. The 700 itself established the heavy retro runner as a mainstream shape when Wave Runner released on 12 August 2017, and the MNVN answered it with a leaner, more utilitarian upper. Where the original 700s built their identity from panelling and contrast, the MNVN builds it from single colour saturation. Honey is a material name in the same spirit as Oxford Tan and Butter, describing a substance you can picture rather than a shade on a chart, and here it lands somewhere between amber and burnt yellow. It is one of the warmest colourways in the whole catalogue and one of the few that genuinely reads as summer footwear.
Utility
Amber is a warm accent, so build a warm outfit or a fully neutral one. First recipe: cream wide leg trousers, a white tee, a tan cap, keeping everything inside the same warm family so the shoe reads as tonal rather than loud. Second recipe: black tapered joggers and a black tee, using the honey as the single colour in an otherwise dark fit. Avoid orange and mustard clothing, which will compete. Occasion: daytime, heat, travel, festivals. 700s tend to run large, so try true to size and consider half down. Care: wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap after dusty days, treat scuffs quickly because saturated warm tones show abrasion, and keep them out of long direct sun.
Influence
The 700 line is where Yeezy's effect on silhouette is most obvious, taking a bulky retro runner from niche to universal within a couple of seasons. Around it sat the drop machinery the label invented: limited stock, announced times, queue culture, bot buying and a resale economy that the rest of the industry adopted as standard practice. At its peak the partnership generated roughly two billion dollars a year for adidas. It closed on 25 October 2022, when adidas terminated the deal after Kanye West's antisemitic public remarks, which the company stated were unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and the MNVN sits in the final phase of that run.
Construction
The MNVN runs a single tone across the upper, the sole and the details so the shoe reads as one moulded block rather than a stack of layered panels, which is the main visual difference from the earlier 700s. Boost sits underneath, the expanded TPU pellet foam that gives the line its bounce and its speckled look, coloured to match rather than left contrasting. There is no visible logo. The upper is lighter and more open than the nap and mesh mixes on the original 700, which makes this one of the better choices for heat despite the bulk, and you still get the family's wide planted platform and roomy toe box. Amber tones do show dust, so expect regular wiping.
