Origin
Released on 12 January 2023 and part of the Adilette 22 line. This release has a synthetic upper in Crystal White/Crystal White/Core Black. The Adilette is the oldest continuous product idea adidas has: a slide made for athletes walking from the pitch to the shower, built by a company that started in Adolf Dassler's mother's laundry room in Herzogenaurach and grew up watching what athletes actually needed between events. The 22 is the modern rework of that logic, a sculpted one piece shape rather than a strap bolted to a footbed. Crystal White strips it back to a single pale tone so the form carries everything: the ridged deck, the raised heel wall, the Three Stripes cut into the band rather than printed on top. Those stripes are the mark adidas bought from Finnish maker Karhu Sports in 1952 for roughly 1,600 euros and two bottles of whisky, and here they are structure, not decoration.
Utility
Two ways to run Crystal White. First, full tonal ease: cream or oatmeal cotton shorts, a heavy white tee, and let the slide finish an all light stack for airport days and Indian summer evenings. Second, contrast: black nylon track pants or dark denim cropped just above the ankle, so the white slide sits like a punctuation mark at the bottom of the outfit. Wear barefoot for the intended look, or with a low cotton crew if you want the sportswear read. Slides run generously, so size down if you are between sizes and dislike heel overhang. Rinse with plain water after pool or beach use, wipe the deck dry, and lift scuffs off the white with a soft brush and mild soap rather than anything solvent based.
Influence
adidas is a brand that entered culture twice, once through sport and once through music it never paid for, and the slide sits at the intersection. Run-DMC released My Adidas on 29 May 1986, then at Madison Square Garden on 19 July held their shell toes in the air in front of adidas executive Angelo Anastasio, producing the first endorsement deal between a musical act and an athletic company. What that moment permanently established was that adidas gear reads as personal uniform off the field, not just kit. The Adilette carries that with the least effort of anything in the range: it is what the brand looks like when nobody is performing, which is exactly why it became a streetwear staple rather than a locker room afterthought.
Construction
This is a moulded slide, so almost everything is decided at the tool rather than the stitching table. The band and footbed read as one continuous piece, which is why there is nothing to peel, fray or unglue at the join. The deck is contoured and ridged for grip when your foot is wet, and the sidewall rises so your foot sits into the slide rather than on top of it. Crystal White is the least forgiving finish a moulded shoe can take: scuffs and transfer show immediately, which is the trade you accept for how clean it looks new. The Three Stripes are debossed into the strap, so they cannot rub off the way a printed logo would.
