Released on 2 February 2024 and part of adidas's UltraBoost Light line. This release has a primeknit+ upper in Blue Burst/Yellow/Semi Green Spark. UltraBoost Light is the lighter execution of the shoe that gave adidas its modern technical identity. Boost arrived in adidas running in 2013, a thermoplastic polyurethane developed with German chemical company BASF, and it made a genuine claim: more energy back than the EVA foam the industry ran on, and more consistent behaviour across temperatures. The Ultraboost was the shoe built to sell that idea, and the Light versions are adidas asking whether the same feel can be delivered with less mass. The Red and Blue Mismatch execution puts two different colourways on one pair, left and right disagreeing on purpose. It is a styling trick with a long history in football boots and basketball, and it turns a technical shoe into something people photograph.
Two ways to wear it. First, let the mismatch be the outfit: everything else neutral, black or grey, with cropped or tapered trousers so both shoes are fully visible and the joke lands. Second, colour link it: a red or blue top that picks up one side, which turns an accident looking pair into a deliberate scheme. Good for travel, long walking days and casual wear, and genuinely comfortable for easy running if you want it. Knit uppers run snug through the midfoot, so go true and lace lightly. Hand wash cold with mild soap, never machine, and dry away from heat, which yellows the pale Boost midsole faster than dirt ever will.
Boost is the technology that carries the Ultraboost, NMD, Energy Boost, Pure Boost and adizero Adios Boost, and it restored adidas as a company that could argue on engineering rather than archive. That mattered because adidas's cultural power had come from elsewhere: from Jesse Owens wearing Dassler spikes in 1936, and from Run-DMC releasing My Adidas in 1986 and triggering the first endorsement deal between a musical act and an athletic company. Boost gave the modern brand something that was its own invention. Mismatched colourways sit on the other side of that, pure attention seeking, which is a legitimate use for a shoe most people buy for how it looks anyway.
Boost is made of thousands of fused TPU pellets, and its bounce comes from how those pellets are processed rather than from the polymer itself, which is why it returns energy the way it does and why it does not go dead in cold weather the way standard foams can. The Ultraboost pairs that midsole with a knit upper and an external cage through the midfoot and heel, holding the foot centred over a soft platform. On a mismatched pair, that cage becomes the graphic device: red on one shoe, blue on the other, with the knit following. The build is otherwise identical left to right, so the disagreement is purely visual and does not change how either shoe rides.
