For infants this is a house and holiday shoe, not a walking shoe. Recipe one: poolside and beach, worn over bare feet with a rash vest and shorts, since foam dries fast and sand rinses straight off. Recipe two: nursery run and garden play, paired with soft joggers and a tee, easy for a child to push their own feet into, which is half the appeal. Slides run large across the range, so size down if the strap is loose, and check that the toes sit well inside the front edge. Skip them for running around on hard or slippery surfaces where a closed shoe is safer. Rinse with cool water, wipe dry, and keep them out of direct sun and hot cars, because EVA foam warps with heat.

The Slide is the Yeezy product that crossed furthest out of sneaker culture. Alongside the Foam Runner it moved into general fashion and was imitated across the mass market so widely that the shape became generic, which is a strange kind of success: the design won the argument and lost the exclusivity. Kids sizing was part of that spread, since a household buying one pair tended to buy the small version too. Kanye West founded and designed Yeezy, and adidas terminated the partnership on 25 October 2022 after his antisemitic public remarks, which the company called unacceptable, hateful and dangerous. The silhouette outlived the deal, which is why copies of it are still everywhere.

The Slide is injection moulded, a single piece of EVA foam with no seams, no stitching and nothing glued on, which is the whole design argument: strip footwear back to one shape. For a small child that construction is genuinely practical, because there is nothing to come apart, nothing to tie and no lining to hold moisture. The footbed is textured to give a little grip against a bare foot, and the sole carries a ridged tread. There is no visible branding on the outside. Grey foam hides playground dust better than the pale tones. Expect the foam to soften slightly in warm weather and to stay light enough that a toddler barely registers wearing them.
