Released on 13 November 2024 and part of the Jordan Spizike line. This release has a leather upper in White/University Blue/Wolf Grey/Anthracite. The Spizike carries Spike Lee into the shoe itself. Lee directed the earliest Air Jordan advertising and played Mars Blackmon on screen opposite Michael Jordan, work that moved the shoes from sports equipment into film language, and the model built in his name is a deliberate mashup of the archive rather than a retro of one year. This Low version cuts the silhouette down for daily wear. The UNC treatment sends it to North Carolina, the university Jordan played for and one of the college basketball programmes Jordan Brand outfits, which makes the pale blue and white the most personal palette in the whole catalogue. University blue wants light, clean tailoring around it. Recipe one: off white wide leg trousers, a navy tee, a light denim overshirt, so the blue in the shoe answers something above the waist. Recipe two: grey sweat shorts, a white tee, a varsity jacket, the straightforward campus read that this colourway was built for. It is a spring and summer shoe, best on dry pavement, and genuinely bad in monsoon conditions. Size true, lace firmly through the midfoot because the low collar gives you no ankle support, and rotate it rather than wearing it daily. Treat the white midsole with a foam cleaner and keep the blue panels away from denim that has not been washed.
North Carolina is where the story starts. Michael Jordan is the founding signature athlete and namesake, signed to Nike in 1984 on a six year deal worth about three times any other contract in the league at the time, with royalties attached. Spike Lee's Mars Blackmon advertising is why the model exists at all. The palette itself has become brand shorthand well beyond basketball: Jordan Brand now dresses college programmes including North Carolina, Georgetown, Cincinnati and Michigan, and moved outside the sport entirely with Michigan Wolverines football in 2016 and Paris Saint-Germain in 2018. Pale blue on a Jordan reads as heritage rather than novelty.
Light blue over white is the least forgiving combination Jordan Brand makes, and the Spizike's mixed panelling puts several material changes right where the shoe creases. Nike Air cushioning, in the line from the Air Jordan II onward, sits underneath and gives the low cut more ride than its height suggests. Because the low profile drops the collar, the lockdown comes from the midfoot lacing rather than the ankle, so lace it properly. On care, be preemptive rather than reactive: protect before first wear, keep a white foam cleaner for the midsole and a separate soft brush for the blue panels, and clean the same day rather than letting a scuff set into pale material.
