Released on 24 June 2025 and part of New Balance's 327 line. This release has a suede upper in Rose Sugar/Sea Salt. The Lace Pack takes the 327, the most graphic shoe in the New Balance line, and moves the emphasis to a component nobody usually looks at. Rose Sugar is the softest reading in that set, a pale pink that sits against the oversized block N without competing with it. The 327 was always the brand's design forward silhouette, exaggerating archive running proportions rather than reproducing them, and this women's build keeps that proportion while shifting the palette into something warmer. New Balance opened in 1906 as the New Balance Arch Support Company, and the reason it can push a shoe this stylised is that fit was never the part being experimented with. The playfulness sits on top of an old engineering habit.
Utility
Rose Sugar behaves like a neutral if you let it. Recipe one: cream wide leg trousers, a white tank and an oversized grey cardigan, a soft palette where the pink is a tone rather than a statement. Recipe two: dark indigo jeans, a black fitted knit and a camel coat, where the shoe warms up an otherwise cool outfit. This is a dry weather walking shoe, good for city days, brunches and travel, unsuited to rain or mud given the pale upper. Check width fittings on a slim silhouette. Protect before first wear, brush dry, treat marks quickly since pale pink holds stains, and dry away from heat.
Influence
New Balance's cultural authority came from being ignored for long enough to become sincere. The 990 family turned the plain grey running shoe into the archetypal American dad shoe, worn for comfort rather than status, and normcore and then high fashion reclaimed that plainness in the 2010s as a design position. The 327 is the brand designing with that reappraisal in mind, and a colour pack like this one is the fashion side of the business speaking clearly. The company's own formalisation came in April 2021, when Aime Leon Dore founder Teddy Santis was appointed creative director of Made in USA. A soft pink 327 is downstream of all of it, playful rather than nostalgic.
Construction
Underneath, the 327 is a low, light silhouette with mixed panel and mesh surfaces and the block N running large across the side wall. Rose Sugar reads warm in daylight and almost neutral indoors, which is what makes a pink sneaker wearable rather than costume. New Balance's cushioning reference points, ENCAP with its polyurethane rim around an EVA core and ABZORB's foam and rubber blend for impact dispersal, define how the brand thinks about support even in its slimmer shoes. Multiple width fittings remain available across the line, which matters more on a narrow profile.
