Released on 17 January 2025 and part of adidas's Samba line. This release has a leather upper in Core White/Royal Blue/Night Indigo. White with royal blue stripes and a night indigo heel is the Samba playing with two blues at once, one bright and one almost black. That layering is what separates this pair from the standard navy Samba: you get the sharp sporting blue on the quarter panel and a deeper, moodier tone at the back that only shows when the shoe is seen from behind or in motion. adidas built its whole identity on stripes it did not invent, buying the Three Stripes from Karhu Sports in 1952, and colourways like this exist to remind you that the stripe is the design. Everything else on the Samba is just the surface it sits on.
Blue on white asks for restraint elsewhere. Mid wash straight jeans with a plain white tee and a navy overshirt keeps the whole outfit inside one family and lets the royal stripe be the brightest note. For something sharper, grey wool trousers with a white oxford shirt gives you a smart casual read that still works on a Friday in an office. Size a half down if your foot is narrow, since this shape runs long. Protect the suede toe before first wear, wipe the white leather the same day it marks, and use a soft eraser rather than water on the blue panels to avoid dye lifting into the white.
adidas has been sponsoring football's biggest names for decades, Lionel Messi and David Beckham among them, and the visual language of blue on white belongs to that world. But the Samba's real audience came from outside sport, from the same shift that took the Superstar and the Stan Smith off courts and made them the base layer of European terrace and casual dressing. That transfer is what adidas Originals was created to serve, marked by the Trefoil drawn in 1971 for the 1972 Munich Olympics. This colourway sits precisely on the seam between the two.
Leather across the white base with a suede overlay at the toe, royal blue Three Stripes stitched along the quarter, and the darker indigo carried at the heel patch. The stripes are structural: adidas originally sewed them on to reinforce the upper, and on a low shoe with this little material that reinforcement still does real work. Underfoot the outsole is flat and thin by modern standards, which gives you ground feel and a low stance but very little cushioning, so long concrete days will tell. The two tone blue also hides heel scuffing better than an all white build, which is a practical advantage nobody markets.
