Origin
Designed by Tinker Hatfield and released on 17 February 2024 as part of the Air Jordan 4 line. This release has a leather upper in Black/Fire Red/Cement Grey/Summit White. Tinker Hatfield designed the Air Jordan 4 in 1989, the first Air Jordan to release globally, and Michael Jordan laced the black and red pair at the All-Star Game in Houston on February 12 that year. Three months later he fought for the inbounds, drove to the middle of the floor and hit the double clutch jumper over Craig Ehlo to end Cleveland's season. That photograph, MJ mid celebration, is why the Bred 4 sits among the most important sneakers ever made. Bred Reimagined is Jordan Brand answering two decades of retros that missed the mark. Shape, fit and feel were re-engineered back to the original 89 specs, Nike Air returned to the heel tab, outsole and insoles in place of the Jumpman, and the upper moved to full grain leather. Utility
Two ways to run them. Straight up with cuffed raw black denim, a white tee and a black bomber, letting the red be the only colour in the fit. Or looser: wide grey sweats under an oversized cement grey hoodie so shoe and top speak to each other. On fit, the Air Jordan 4 runs true to size and is historically narrow across the metatarsals, but Nike widened the forefoot pattern from 2023 and Reimagined pairs carry that room, so take your usual Nike size unless you wear a wide, where half a size up helps. Expect two to four days of break in. Care is simple: damp cloth on the upper, soft brush on the midsole, out of direct sun so the white does not yellow. Influence
Nike sold this shoe twice, once on court and once on screen. Spike Lee's Mars Blackmon commercials alongside Michael Jordan built the anticipation, and collectors still say it was the ad with MJ and Spike that actually moved the pairs. Bred carries all of it: the All-Star debut, the shot over Ehlo, and the long stretch of retros in 2008 and 2012 that used weaker materials and swapped the Nike Air heel for a Jumpman. Reimagined exists because that community complained loudly enough, and Jordan Brand answered with better leather and the original branding restored. Construction
Supple full grain black leather replaces the nubuck and canvas of the original, and that swap is the entire argument for this pair. Leather creases into character instead of scuffing bald, and it survives humidity and rain far better than brushed nubuck, which matters if you actually wear your 4s rather than keeping them boxed. The scheme runs black, cement grey, red and summit white, the combination that turned Bred into shorthand for Chicago. The plastic support wings are still there giving the 4 its silhouette and letting you set lace tension exactly where you want it, and the midsole keeps the original profile.
