Released on 21 December 2021 and part of the Court Borough line. This release has a leather upper in White/Summit White/Dark Smoke Grey/Metallic Red Bronze. The Court Borough Low 2 is the workhorse of Nike's court range: a simple leather low top built to a price, sold in volume, and worn until it wears out. It borrows its shape from the tennis silhouettes the brand has made since Ilie Nastase became its first professional athlete endorser, with everything expensive removed. This grade school pair runs white with a metallic red bronze accent, a warm reflective finish rather than a flat colour, which is an unusually considered detail on a shoe at this level. There is no style code on the row. Its ambition is not to be collected, and that is precisely why it gets worn.
White with a metallic accent is easy for daily wear: navy or grey trousers and a plain sweatshirt, or dark denim, a white tee and a bronze or rust coloured jacket to echo the trim. The second recipe is sport, with black shorts and a white tee. Suitable for school, casual wear and light court use rather than running or training. Grade school sizing is close to true, so allow a thumb of growing room. Synthetic uppers clean easily with mild soap and a damp cloth, but avoid the washing machine, which lifts bonded panels, and use a soft cloth on the metallic trim since abrasive cleaners strip the finish.
Nike's reputation was built at the expensive end, through the 1984 Michael Jordan signing, the Spike Lee advertising and the Air Max and Air Force 1 lines that became staples of American youth dress. But the Swoosh reaches most feet through shoes like this one. Nike's India experience is instructive: priced roughly thirty percent above competitors, it reported no net profit from 2006 until the year ending 2019 and closed around two hundred stores from 2017, which is what happens when a brand's accessible tier does not do enough of the work in a price sensitive market.
Synthetic leather panels cut to a basic court map: full toe box, Swoosh across the quarter, a heel counter and a low padded collar, with a rubber outsole and a flat court tread underneath. No Air unit, no engineered foam, no visible technology. The metallic red bronze is applied as a finish on the Swoosh and trim rather than as a leather panel, which is how brightness gets added at this price point without changing the material cost. That makes the accent the first thing to show wear, so expect the metallic to dull before the white upper does. The build is designed for cleaning rather than for conditioning.
