Origin
Released on 30 April 2026 and part of the Mind 001 line. This release has the Blackened Blue/Metallic Copper/Game Royal/White colourway. The Mind 001 is Nike's first recovery slide, and the strangest thing it has released in years. It comes out of the Nike Mind Science Department, a platform more than a decade in development and tested by hundreds of athletes, built on the idea that footwear can affect how you feel and not just how you move. Mind 001 is the slide, Mind 002 is the sneaker. The line debuted in Light Smoke Grey in October 2025, and the Blackened Blue arrived on April 30, 2026 under style code HQ4307-400, pairing Blackened Blue with Game Royal, Metallic Copper and White. It is the first Mind release to run a colour transition rather than flat blocking, and the palette was chosen for tones tied to focus and clarity.
Utility
Use these the way they were built: the hour after you train. Pull them on after a long run or a lifting session, when your feet want anything but a laced shoe, and let the node bed work while you cool down. Second use is travel and around the house, where the perforated shell stays cool through Indian summers and the water resistant base handles a wet bathroom or a monsoon corridor. Pair them with shorts and a hoodie post-gym, or with loose trousers for airport days. On sizing, the molded shell has no lace or strap adjustment, so the fit is fixed rather than tunable, and wide feet should try a pair before committing. Care is easy: rinse them under a tap, wipe the node bed, and air dry away from direct heat so the foam holds its shape.
Influence
Recovery footwear stopped being a niche and became a category, with brands like Oofos and adidas selling ergonomic slides to people who train hard and want their feet back the next morning. Nike arrived late and arrived weird, which is the more interesting move. Instead of competing on softness, the Mind 001 competes on sensation, marketing a neuroscience claim rather than a foam name, and the look backs it up: a sculpted, node-covered shell that reads closer to a concept object than a slide. The Blackened Blue is the version that made the line wearable outside the gym, because the gradient and the copper Swoosh give it enough restraint to leave the house. Construction
Everything here happens underfoot. The Mind 001 carries 22 independently articulated foam nodes that move like pistons as you walk, translating ground texture up into your foot, with node density mapped to how sensory receptors sit across the sole. The base material is flexible and water resistant so each node can move on its own. Above sits a molded shell, not a strap, perforated along the vamp and sidewall so heat escapes, with a contoured footbed and circular traction pods on the outsole. On the Blackened Blue, the shell runs a gradient from deep navy into a richer blue, the interior and outsole carry the darker tone, the cushioning pods break up in grey and white, and metallic copper Swoosh detailing catches light on the lateral side.
