On was born in Zurich in 2010, when three-time world duathlon champion Olivier Bernhard, with Caspar Coppetti and David Allemann, strapped lengths of garden hose to a prototype sole chasing a landing that felt soft and a takeoff that felt fast. That experiment became CloudTec, and the Cloud became the shoe that carried On from an ISPO Brand New Award to sidewalks everywhere. The Cloud 6 is the sixth turn of that idea, with the geometry reworked in shape, structure and volume, a new sockliner, and a wider opening you can slip into without sitting down. This Waterproof build takes the women's Cloud 6 and seals it. Pearl Cream keeps it quiet: a warm off-white you can wear when the sky opens without looking like you dressed for weather.
On lists the Cloud 6 as true to size, and the midfoot runs snug, so take your usual size and only go up a half if you have a wide foot or live in thick socks. Two ways to wear Pearl Cream: straight-leg indigo denim, a white tee and a camel overshirt, letting the shoe and the outerwear rhyme; or black leggings with an oversized grey sweatshirt for gym-to-errands days, where the off-white stops the fit going flat. It earns its keep on wet commutes, travel days and long walks. For care, wipe mud off while it is still damp, hand clean with mild soap and cool water, and air dry away from direct heat so the membrane stays intact. Never a washing machine, never a dryer.
On went from a triathlete's garage experiment to one of the fastest-rising names in footwear, and the Cloud is the silhouette that did it. Those pod soles are recognisable from across a street, which is why the shoe crossed out of running clubs into airport lounges, studio-to-cafe outfits and tech-office dress codes. The Cloud reads as quiet engineering rather than hype, and the women's Pearl Cream sits at the calm end of that: nothing shouting, just a neutral you can build a wardrobe around. In India the waterproof version carries a specific kind of weight, because monsoon months are exactly when a good-looking pair usually gets benched for something you do not mind ruining. This one does not have to sit out.
The upper is polyester in a tightly structured mesh, with a waterproof membrane sitting behind it, so drizzle and puddles stay outside while your foot still breathes. Underfoot, On's patented CloudTec pods hollow out the sole and collapse on impact, which is why landings feel cushioned on wet pavement instead of harsh, then rebound to push you into the next step. A Speedboard runs through the midfoot to keep the ride stable rather than sloppy. The new sockliner and wider collar opening mean less fighting to get in, and the streamlined silhouette keeps the whole thing light enough to wear from a commute through a full day on your feet.
