Released on 2 February 2023 and part of Nike's ZoomX Invincible 3 line. This release has a flyknit upper in College Navy/Midnight Navy/Black/Metallic Silver. ZoomX is Nike's altered Pebax foam, the lightest and most responsive material in the company's range, developed for the Vaporfly where it was paired with a full length carbon fibre plate to generate extra spring in every step. Peer research found that combination could improve marathon times by up to 4.2 percent. The Invincible Run takes the same foam and points it in the opposite direction: no plate, no racing brief, just an enormous volume of ZoomX under the foot for the runs that make up most of a training week. College Navy keeps it plain. A deep, saturated blue over the knit upper, which lets the sheer height of the midsole be the thing you notice.
Two uses. Easy mileage: this is a recovery and long slow distance shoe, best on road and pavement with a technical sock and shorts, where the foam's job is to keep your legs fresh for the sessions that matter. Second, standing days: travel, airports, long walks, anywhere the alternative is a flat sole and sore feet. It is not a shoe for speed work or trails, and the tall stack means you should be deliberate on uneven ground. Size as you would other Nike running shoes, allowing a thumbnail of space at the toe. Care is simple: never machine wash a knit upper or expose ZoomX to high heat, brush off dirt when dry, and air them out between runs.
Nike's running credibility is its founding asset. Steve Prefontaine, Bill Bowerman's pupil at Oregon, became the first track athlete to endorse the brand and remains its symbol of running as attitude rather than as a hobby. The modern chapter belongs to foam. When ZoomX and carbon plates arrived, World Athletics responded with rules on 31 January 2020 capping sole thickness at 40mm, limiting shoes to one rigid plate and requiring general retail availability. The Invincible sits outside that argument entirely, since it is a training shoe rather than a racer, and that is why it became the everyday favourite of people who race in the plated models: the same foam, none of the pressure.
A Flyknit upper on a very tall ZoomX midsole, which is the entire design argument. Flyknit builds the upper as a single engineered knit piece rather than as stitched panels, so the shoe holds the foot through zoned structure instead of layers, and College Navy over knit gives a matte, textile depth that leather could not produce. ZoomX is soft and highly responsive, so the ride feels deep and bouncy rather than firm, and the volume of foam means you sit higher off the ground than in most trainers. That height needs a stable platform, which is why the midsole flares wider at the base. Knit uppers breathe well in heat and dry quickly, which matters in Indian conditions.
