Released on 10 December 2023 and part of the Calm Slide line. This release has a eva upper in University Red/University Red. University Red is one of Nike's oldest working colours, the tone that appears on team kit, on court shoes and across decades of advertising, and putting it on the Calm Slide gives a piece of recovery equipment a sports team's voice. A slide has nowhere to hide: no panels, no stitching, no branding hardware, so a strong red is a loud statement by default. Nike understood the value of a single unmistakable signal early, from the Swoosh first used in June 1971 to Just Do It in 1988, a line that ended up in the Smithsonian. A red slide is that lesson applied to the simplest product it makes.
Two ways to use it. Post training, with cushioned white socks and black shorts, the standard locker room read where the red is the only colour anywhere on you. Or in summer, with black or navy shorts and a plain white tee, using the slide as the single strong accent rather than trying to match it. Avoid long walks and uneven ground, as there is nothing holding your heel. Rinse after chlorine or salt water, dry in the shade to protect the pigment, and keep them out of hot cars and off radiators, since moulded foam distorts permanently under heat.
The move of training footwear into everyday dress is the same shift that made Air Force 1s, Air Max models and Air Jordans into staples of mainstream casual and athleisure wardrobes from the 1990s onward. A slide is the least athletic object in that story and one of the most worn, because it is what people put on when the sport stops. Nike is still the official on court uniform supplier to the NBA, WNBA and G League under a relationship running since 2017 and extended for a further twelve years, and a team red slide borrows that visual language directly.
One piece moulded construction, a wide contoured footbed and a broad instep band, designed for slip on wear without socks and without adjustment. The contoured base is the functional part, supporting the arch rather than lying flat, which is why the category exists for post training and long standing use rather than for fashion alone. With no seams and no lining, it dries fast and survives pool and shower use. Saturated red is the tone most exposed to fading under sustained sun, so shade storage genuinely extends its life. Fit is straightforward: your heel should sit inside the footbed, and slides should not be bought long in the way sneakers sometimes are.
