Designed by Tinker Hatfield and released on 25 July 2025 as part of the Air Jordan 5 line. This release has a leather upper in White/Violet Ore/Burgundy Crush/Black. This is the Air Jordan 5 in its Retro OG cut, worked with A Ma Maniere under the Black Collective banner. The 5 belongs to the Tinker Hatfield stretch of the line, the period after Nike handed the series to him and he turned a basketball shoe into a design series with its own language, model by model. Collaboration is now central to how Jordan Brand operates, a programme that runs from luxury houses to specialist retailers, and a partner led OG treatment is the version of that programme aimed squarely at people who know the 5's proportions by heart rather than by reputation.
Two recipes. Loose and correct: black or charcoal wide leg trousers, hem stacked just above the midsole, a plain heavy knit, letting the 5's tooling do the talking. Or sport heritage: grey sweats with a black bomber, the netting and reflective panel visible when light hits. The 5 has more visual mass than a 1, so keep silhouettes above the waist simple. Sizing is close to true with a snug midfoot. Brush the netting rather than wiping it, clean the midsole separately, and keep the reflective panel away from solvents that will kill the finish permanently. A plain black sock keeps the focus on the tooling.
Jordan Brand's collaboration list is the widest in footwear: Off-White under Virgil Abloh, Dior, Comme des Garcons, Supreme and KAWS on the design side, Travis Scott with Cactus Jack releases on the 1, 4 and 6, and Drake, Billie Eilish, J Balvin, Eminem and Nicki Minaj across music. Partner led releases sit at the centre of a resale market valued around 2 billion dollars, which is both the pressure and the point. A Black Collective release carries a different weight than a hype drop, because the credit is shared with the people who built the culture the shoe has been drawing on since 1985.
The Air Jordan 5 is a busier shoe than the 1: side netting through the midfoot, a lace lock at the throat, a reflective tongue panel and a translucent outsole under a midsole shaped in its distinctive tooth pattern. Nike Air cushioning has been part of the line since the Air Jordan II, and the 5 sits firmly inside that era of the series, so it feels softer underfoot than the flat leather cupsole of the original model. Collaboration builds usually push material grade rather than change tooling, so expect the shape you know in surfaces you do not. Store them shaped, since the netting slackens if the shoe is left folded.
