Designed by Peter Moore and released on 20 December 2022 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a patent leather upper in White/Midnight Navy/Wolf Grey/Metallic Silver. A golf Air Jordan 1 is the clearest proof that this line stopped being a basketball property. Since becoming a standalone division inside Nike in 1997, Jordan Brand has moved into American football with the Michigan Wolverines in 2016, into association football with Paris Saint-Germain in 2018, and onto the course with golf builds of its most famous silhouette. Midnight Navy is the right colour for that journey: dark, formal and closer to a clubhouse dress code than a court. The shape underneath is still the 1985 High that Peter Moore drew with Bruce Kilgore, which is the joke and the point at once, a basketball shoe walking eighteen holes.
Two ways to wear it. First, on the course, with mid grey golf trousers and a navy quarter zip, where the shoe matches the top and disappears into a correct clubhouse palette. Second, off the course, with cream chinos and a white polo, since a navy High reads smart enough to carry a resort dinner. Wear proper socks: a High rubs at the collar over eighteen holes if you go low cut. Do not treat this as a rain shoe. Brush the upper after every round, clean the outsole thoroughly, and keep it out of a hot car boot where heat degrades any sole build.
Golf is where this brand's audience went as it aged, and Jordan Brand followed them the way it followed football to Michigan and Paris. The line's cultural claim is still built on Nike's Spike Lee directed advertising, with Lee playing Mars Blackmon opposite Jordan, and on hip hop's citation of the shoes, but a navy golf 1 speaks to the version of that audience now playing a round rather than a pickup game. It is also a quiet flex on a course full of conventional shoes: the silhouette is instantly readable to anyone who grew up on the line, and invisible to everyone else.
The golf build keeps the High's upper proportions and changes what happens below and inside: traction and stability for grass and slope rather than for hardwood cuts, and a construction meant to survive dew, mown turf and long walking rounds. Midnight navy hides grass marks and mud better than any pale colourway, which matters more on a course than it does in a city. The collar still sits above the ankle, so you get lateral support through a swing without losing the silhouette. Clean turf and soil off the outsole after every round rather than letting it dry in, dry the pair slowly away from heat, and store it with paper inside to hold the collar shape.
