Designed by Peter Moore and released on 11 April 2023 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Lucky Green/Aquatone/White. Lucky Green with aquatone is a pairing the founding shoe would never have carried. The Air Jordan 1 launched in Chicago's red, black and white, colours that still function as brand colours in themselves, and everything outside that palette is the brand exercising the freedom it earned once the model stopped being basketball equipment and became a canvas. A bright green with a soft blue green counter tone is a spring and summer proposition, tuned for daylight rather than for a gymnasium. On the Low, the most wearable cut in the family, it becomes something you can actually build outfits around instead of something you save. The silhouette is Peter Moore's, still doing the work four decades on.
Two greens on your feet means no green anywhere else. Wear it with off white wide leg trousers and a white tee for a bright summer outfit where the shoe is the only saturated element, or with washed black denim and a grey crewneck for the version that works in a city. Keep accessories neutral: no coloured cap, no coloured socks. The Low needs no cuffing and sits cleanly under a full break. Sizing runs long on many feet. Protect the pair before first wear, clean scuffs at the panel edges the day they happen, and keep the brights out of extended sunlight so the two tones stay distinct.
Colour experimentation is how the Air Jordan 1 stayed relevant after its performance life ended. The model's authority was built through Spike Lee's Nike advertising, where he directed and played Mars Blackmon opposite Michael Jordan, and through references from 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube and Jay-Z. Since then it has been reinterpreted by Off-White under Virgil Abloh, Dior, Comme des Garcons, Supreme and KAWS, and by musicians including Drake, Billie Eilish, J Balvin, Eminem and Nicki Minaj. Seasonal colour makeups sit downstream of all that: proof that the silhouette is legible enough to survive any treatment.
The Low uses the original panel map with the collar cut below the ankle bone, which removes the break in period almost entirely and lets the shoe sit under a full length trouser without bunching. Lucky green carries the leading panels while aquatone handles the counter blocking, so the two greens divide along the stitch lines rather than blending into each other, and the seams do the design work. Bright colours on leather show scuffs at the panel edges before they show them anywhere else. Expect creasing across the toe box with wear. Lace it fully, since a Low has no collar structure and relies on lace pressure to hold the heel in place.
