Designed by Tinker Hatfield and released on 24 August 2024 as part of the Air Jordan 4 line. This release has a nubuck upper in Black/White/Black. Thunder is one of the 4's long running family names, and it belongs to the darker, higher contrast side of the model's history rather than the tonal side. This grade school execution flips the usual weighting: white takes the body and the contrast colour is pushed to the details, the wings, the eyelets and the sole trim, so the shoe reads bright first and graphic second. The 4 was where the line's design language got confident. Cut out side panels, external lace hardware and a visible heel structure turned a basketball shoe into something you could recognise in silhouette alone, and every later colourway trades on that recognisability. A white bodied Thunder is that shape at its most legible.
White and black is the easiest 4 to dress. Black jeans with a slight taper, a white tee and a black zip through jacket gives you a clean repeat of the shoe's own logic. For a softer read, grey sweat shorts, a white long sleeve and a cap, so the sole line stays the brightest thing in the fit. The 4 laces through separate mounted wings rather than plain eyelets, which changes how tension travels: you tighten across the midfoot rather than only down the instep, and you can dial the fit asymmetrically if one foot needs more hold. The side panels are open, so airflow is genuinely better than on a 1 and the shoe wears cooler in heat. Nike Air cushioning has been in the line from the second model onward and the 4 sits in that lineage, so the heel is sprung rather than flat.
