Released on 12 June 2024 and part of the Jordan MVP line. This release has a nubuck upper in Gym Red/Black/Black. The MVP is not a retro. It is a shoe assembled from the design language the line built up across decades, and it makes sense only because that language exists: the Jumpman, the Wings mark, elephant print, Air cushioning, the Chicago palette. Raging Bull is the red make up, a direct nod to the Chicago Bulls identity that has functioned as a brand colour since Nike signed Jordan on 26 October 1984 on a six year, 2.5 million dollar deal with royalties attached. Where a retro asks you to know one model, the MVP asks you to know the whole catalogue and to enjoy seeing its pieces recombined. Style code DZ4475 600.
All red is a commitment. First: black wide leg trousers with the hem just clearing the collar, a black tee, silver hardware only; the shoe becomes the single colour statement. Second: mid blue denim, a white heavyweight tee and a black leather jacket, the classic frame for a red sneaker. Occasion is evening, weekend, going out. Fit is true to size on a hybrid last, with a roomier collar than an OG 1. Care: identify the soft materials first and brush them dry, use a damp cloth only on smooth leather, spray a protector before first wear because red dye lifts under soap, and keep them out of rain.
Air Jordan reached culture through the collision of basketball and hip hop, and red is the colour that carries that collision. The Banned advertising, built on the NBA's uniform rule requiring shoes to be at least 51 percent white and Nike's willingness to pay the 5,000 dollar per game fine, made a red shoe into an argument. Rappers including 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube and Jay-Z put Jordans in records; Spike Lee, directing and playing Mars Blackmon, put them on screen. This is a hybrid build, which means the panels come from different eras of the line's vocabulary and are stitched into a single upper rather than reproducing any one shoe's pattern. Expect a mixed material surface, red as the dominant tone, and brand marks used as design elements rather than as small logos. Nike Air cushioning has been part of the line since the Air Jordan II and carries the shoe under a rubber outsole. Practically, a hybrid upper wears like the softest material on it, so the suede or nubuck sections dictate how you clean and how carefully you wear it in wet weather.
