Origin
Released on 20 July 2025 and part of the Jordan Spizike line. This release has a leather upper in Neutral Grey/Varsity Maize/Surf Blue/Dark Shadow/Varsity Red/Black. The Spizike is named for the man who sold the shoes before anyone knew they needed selling. Spike Lee directed Nike's earliest Air Jordan advertising and appeared in it as Mars Blackmon opposite Jordan, which is how a basketball shoe learned film language. The model carrying his name is a hybrid rather than a reissue, assembled out of the design vocabulary Tinker Hatfield built into the numbered line from the Air Jordan III onward. This Low SE takes the hybrid down to a low cut and dresses it in Bordeaux, a deep wine tone with its own standing in the wider Jordan colour library. A tribute model wearing a grown up colour, which is a rarer combination than it sounds.
Utility
Two ways to wear it. First, tonal wine: black trousers with a burgundy knit or scarf, so the Bordeaux repeats once above the waist and reads deliberate rather than accidental. Second, neutral frame: raw indigo denim, a cream crew, and the wine upper as the only saturated colour in the fit. Bordeaux is an autumn and evening tone, better for dinners, gigs and cold weather than for bright summer wear. Care on dark uppers is simple but not optional: brush the panels, spot clean with a barely damp cloth, avoid soaking, and dry at room temperature. Rotate them so the midsole foam has time to recover between wears.
Influence
Spike Lee, as director and as Mars Blackmon, is one of the two names on this shoe, and his advertising is the reason Air Jordan reached past basketball at all. From there the line went into records, with 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube and Jay-Z referencing Jordan and his sneakers, and into a collecting economy valued around 2 billion dollars in resale. Later the brand widened again through design collaborations with Off-White under Virgil Abloh, Dior, Comme des Garcons, Supreme and KAWS. The Spizike predates all of that as an idea: the brand putting a cultural collaborator's name on the box long before collaboration became the default move.
Construction
Bordeaux is the construction story here, because a dark wine upper changes how a busy silhouette reads. The panel seams that define a hybrid go quiet and the shape reads as a single mass rather than a collage. Nike Air cushioning has been part of the line since the Air Jordan II and the Spizike sits in that lineage over a rubber outsole rather than reinventing anything underneath. The low cut removes the ankle bulk that makes a full height hybrid a commitment, so this is the easier version to wear under a trouser hem. Expect it to run true and need no break in. If the upper carries nubuck or suede panels, brush them dry and keep them out of rain.
