    Designed by Don C and released on 6 December 2022 as part of the Jordan Legacy 312 line. This release has a leather upper in Black/White/Metallic Gold. Black and metallic gold is the palette a brand reaches for when it wants to talk about money and legacy at the same time, and on the Legacy 312 that is not accidental. This is a hybrid silhouette, assembled from the line's own archive rather than reissued from one year, and the 312 in its name is Chicago's area code. The business behind it is worth remembering: a six year deal signed on 26 October 1984 worth about 2.5 million dollars with royalties attached, a division created in 1997, roughly 5.1 billion dollars generated for Nike by 2022, and a reported 150 to 256 million dollars flowing to Jordan himself under that original royalty arrangement.

    Black and gold wants evening, not daylight. First: black trousers with a black knit and a black jacket, an all black outfit where the metallic is the only reflective thing on you. Second: dark indigo denim with a cream shirt, a softer version that keeps the gold as a detail rather than a statement. Low cuts want a cropped or cuffed hem so the collar shows. Keep metallic panels away from rain and abrasive cleaners, since both dull the finish permanently. Wipe with a dry microfibre cloth after each wear, store them boxed and out of sunlight, and rotate them rather than wearing them daily.

    Gold reads as trophy, and this brand has always understood the value of a mark that needs no text. The Jumpman came from Peter Moore having Jordan recreate a leaping pose in Bulls gear after seeing a Jacobus Rentmeester photograph shot before the 1984 Olympics, a lineage Rentmeester challenged in court until the Ninth Circuit ruled for Nike in February 2018. The Wings logo marks the earliest era. Both function as luxury marks now, which is why Dior, Off-White under Virgil Abloh and Comme des Garcons have all worked with the brand. A black and gold hybrid is that positioning in its most literal form.

    Metallic gold is a finish, not a material, and finishes wear differently to dyed leather. Expect the gold to sit brightest when new and to dull at the flex points first, which on a low cut means across the toe box. Black panels around it will hide dust well but show any dye transfer from the gold if you clean too aggressively. The Legacy 312 is a low cut, heavily panelled shoe designed to hold several eras of Jordan design language in one upper, so the colour blocking is doing the visual work. Nike does not publish the material split or any measurement for this pair. Use a microfibre cloth on metallic areas and keep brushes for the black.
