Designed by Peter Moore and released on 22 September 2022 as part of Nike's Dunk line. This release has a leather upper in Phantom/Pink Oxford/White. Pink Oxford is a muted, dusty pink rather than a bright one, which is what makes it work on the Dunk High, a shape that already carries a lot of visual weight through the ankle. This is the women's build. The Dunk survived on colour blocking alone: a basketball shoe that stopped playing basketball and became a canvas, kept alive by skateboarding and then by fashion. Nike had learned by then that its strongest products were the ones people adopted rather than the ones it marketed, the same way Air Force 1s became status symbols in urban and hip hop fashion through the 1980s without a campaign telling anyone to wear them.
Two ways to wear it. Straight leg blue denim with a white tee and a grey knit, where the pink is the only soft note and the high collar adds shape at the ankle. Or tonal: cream trousers and a beige cardigan, letting the shoe sit as a slightly deeper shade of the same idea. Keep hems cropped so the collar shows, since a Dunk High under a long trouser just looks like a bulky low. Women's sizing runs on its own scale, so check the chart. Protect pale leather before first wear, brush dry, clean the midsole separately, and avoid wet weather entirely.
Nike shoes became staples of mainstream American youth dress from the 1980s and returned through 1990s and 2000s casual and athleisure looks, and the Dunk was the model that benefited most from that second wave, helped by Nike SB, the skate division whose own history includes apologising in 2005 for using Minor Threat album art. Skateboarding gave the Dunk credibility and colour gave it longevity. Soft, muted palettes are how the high top moved into wardrobes that never wanted a sports shoe, which is exactly the space a dusty pink pair occupies.
Leather panels on the Dunk High last, with contrast leather across the Swoosh, eyestay, collar and heel, a padded high collar, and a foam midsole over a rubber outsole carrying the circular pivot pattern. There is no visible Air unit on this model, so the shoe is lighter and flatter than its bulk suggests and the ride is firm. Pink Oxford sits as the soft overlay tone against a paler base, so the panel geometry stays readable rather than being flattened by contrast. Pale pink leather marks visibly and cannot be scrubbed hard without dulling the finish, so early cleaning beats deep cleaning. Expect the collar to soften over the first week.
