Designed by Peter Moore and released on 25 April 2024 as part of Nike's Dunk line. This release has a leather upper in White/Football Grey/Gum Light Brown. Next Nature is Nike's content line, and putting it on the Dunk Low is the most useful place it could go, because the Dunk is one of the highest volume silhouettes the company makes. Football Grey with a gum sole gives it a soft, worn in palette that suits a shoe built from reclaimed material rather than a clean synthetic one. Nike has been recovering its own waste for years through Nike Grind, which takes manufacturing scrap and worn shoes back into new product and surfaces, so this is an extension of existing practice rather than a new claim. This is the women's build.
Two ways to wear it. Straight leg blue denim with a white tee and a grey knit, the plainest possible outfit where the gum sole is the only warm note. Or layer neutrals: beige wide trousers with a cream sweatshirt, letting the grey upper sit as the darkest element. It is a good everyday walking shoe and a poor wet weather one, since gum soles pick up marks and the upper is not waterproofed. Women's sizing runs on its own scale, so check the chart. Clean gum rubber with an eraser rather than a wet cloth, and keep the shoe out of direct sun so the sole does not darken unevenly.
The Dunk moved from basketball to skateboarding through Nike SB and then into everyday dress, following the path Air Force 1s and Air Max models took as they became staples of mainstream American youth wardrobes from the 1980s and returned through 1990s and 2000s casual and athleisure looks. Nike Grind gave the company a way to fold its own waste back into that output, and the line makes that visible to buyers instead of keeping it in the supply chain. Grey and gum is the palette that makes the idea look intentional rather than compromised.
The Dunk Low panel layout in the women's fit: a panelled upper with contrast overlays at the Swoosh, eyestay, collar and heel, a foam midsole and a rubber outsole, here in gum, which is the warm amber tone that ages into a deeper colour with wear. Next Nature builds use content in the upper and sole components, part of the same thinking behind Nike Grind. material can carry a slightly different texture and colour variation from virgin leather, which is a characteristic of the process rather than a flaw. Underfoot the Dunk stays flat and firm with no visible Air unit, and gum rubber grips well on smooth surfaces but marks more easily than standard black rubber.
