Origin
Released on 19 March 2026 and part of the Mind 002 line. This release has the Light Khaki/Metallic Cool Grey-Desert Khaki-Hyper Crimson-Black colourway. Nike Mind is the company doing what it did in 1964, when Blue Ribbon Sports existed because Bill Bowerman thought the shoes available to American runners were too heavy and someone should make better ones. Every few years Nike restarts that argument in a new category, and Mind is the current version aimed at the hours around training rather than the training itself. The 002 is the second step in that line and Light Khaki is the neutral that makes the point: a shoe that is not trying to be a sports shoe or a fashion sneaker, just something you put on and stop thinking about. Khaki also keeps it out of the loud lane the Dunk and Air Max occupy, which is deliberate for a line named Mind.
Utility
Light Khaki is the easiest neutral to place. Recipe one: black or charcoal joggers with a heather grey crewneck and a black cap, so the shoe is the only warm note. Recipe two: olive cargo pants and a cream tee, an all earth tone build where the khaki ties the top and bottom together. This is a travel, airport and post gym shoe rather than a going out one, and it is well suited to long walking days. Take your usual Nike size and expect a relaxed rather than locked fit. Keep khaki away from wet red soil and monsoon puddles because it stains permanently, brush dry dust off before it sets, and spot clean with mild soap and cold water only.
Influence
Nike's voice has always been about attitude before performance. Steve Prefontaine, Bowerman's pupil at Oregon, became the first track endorser and stood for running as attitude rather than sport, and his statue is at Nike headquarters. Just Do It, first aired on 1 July 1988 with 80 year old runner Walt Stack, extended that to anyone who moved at all. A recovery minded shoe in a quiet khaki is the far end of that same idea: not the race, but the part of the day around it. It belongs to the same lineage that made Air Max and Air Force 1 models slide out of sport into everyday dress from the 1980s onward.
Construction
Light Khaki is a warm mid neutral that sits between sand and olive, and it is the kind of shade that reads as fabric rather than as finish. On a comfort focused silhouette that matters, because the eye goes to the texture and the profile instead of to a logo. Nike's construction toolkit gives this kind of shoe a lot to draw on: Flywire uses cables to hold the foot with very little upper material, Lunarlite is the light foam family, and Dri-FIT is the moisture wicking platform used across its soft goods. What those signatures mean in wear is a shoe that supports without clamping and dries out overnight. Khaki hides dust well, which suits a shoe designed to be worn without ceremony.
