Versa is the sixth generation Cloud built for wearing rather than racing, and in white it is the most straightforward thing On sells: a clean everyday shoe on a sole that explains itself. The Cloud family descends from the Cloudracer of 2012, raced by Swiss triathlete Nicola Spirig, and it is the range that took On from a Zurich workshop to about 6,000 retailers across 55 countries by 2019, holding roughly 40 percent of the Swiss running shoe market. White is the colour that finished the job of making the brand mainstream, because a pale outsole is the only way most people ever notice how the pods are actually shaped, and once you see it you recognise every On you pass.
A clean white everyday shoe is a base you build on. Recipe one: light blue jeans, a white tee and a navy overshirt, a simple weekend build where the shoe keeps everything crisp. Recipe two: grey tailored trousers with a black knit, where white at the ground stops the outfit from going heavy.
