Released on 3 April 2025 and part of the P-6000 line. This release has a suede upper in Vast Grey/Fir/Limelight/Vast Grey. The P-6000 is Nike's running archive worn as clothing. It takes the visual language of the brand's early 2000s trainers, layered mesh, thin overlays, a low slung and slightly awkward profile, and rebuilds it as a shoe for walking rather than racing. That language exists because of decades of actual running work, starting with Bill Bowerman pouring rubber into a waffle iron in the early 1970s to make a lighter, grippier sole. Vast Grey with Fir is the smartest possible reading of the shape: a cool pale grey base with a deep green, a combination that pulls the shoe away from nostalgia and towards something closer to outdoor kit. The Premium build means the materials carry the design rather than the graphics.
Two ways to wear it. Technical: grey or black nylon trousers, a fleece or shell, the Fir green picked up by a bag or a cap so it looks intentional. Relaxed: wide dark denim or olive cargos, a cream knit and a heavy jacket, the layered grey upper adding texture to a plain outfit. Retro runners suit volume and dislike anything slim, so let the hem sit on the shoe. Mesh uppers breathe well in heat and soak through in rain, so keep them for dry days. Clean with a soft brush and a mild foam, never in a machine, and dry naturally away from heat so the glued layers do not lift at the edges.
The era this shoe borrows from is the one where Nike started putting electronics into running. Nike+ paired the company with Apple to put run tracking into the shoe itself, which turned a solitary activity into data you could compare, share and compete over. That was a genuine cultural shift, and the aesthetics of the period, technical, layered, slightly clinical, are exactly what the P-6000 is quoting. This is that cycle caught in the act, a performance look from the recent past being worn now for how it looks rather than what it does.
A retro runner is an exercise in layering. Panels sit on top of each other rather than being cut from a single piece, which is why these shoes look busy up close and simple from a distance, and why the material mix matters so much. Vast Grey across the base with Fir on the overlays sets a cool palette where the green reads almost as a shadow. Nike's midsole tradition, from the waffle outsole through to the pressurised Air unit made visible on the 1987 Air Max, is about protecting a foot over distance, and a shoe styled from that archive inherits the shape of that thinking even when the mileage is a city rather than a track. Brush mesh dry, use foam on the overlays, and never machine wash layered uppers.
