Released on 21 February 2026 and part of the Adistar Jellyfish line. This release has a mesh upper in Royal Blue/Core Black/Focus Olive. Royal Blue is the Adistar Jellyfish with its structure fully exposed. Where a black version hides the sculpting in shadow, a saturated blue lights it: the ribbed shell that gives the model its name reads as ridges, channels and highlights across the whole body of the shoe. Pharrell Williams is a designer collaborator at adidas rather than a sponsored face, and the VIRGINIA line is the body of work he has rooted in where he comes from. This is the loudest object in it, a runner rebuilt around an exoskeleton, and blue is the colour that refuses to let you overlook the idea.
A bright sculptural shoe should be the only complicated thing you wear. Recipe one: full black, wide technical trousers and a black knit, so the royal blue shell is the single point of colour and the ridging reads as the outfit's only texture. Recipe two: tonal blue, with navy or indigo denim and a grey top, which softens the shoe from a statement into a gradient. Best for evenings and city wear where directional light shows the shell. Sculpted uppers are less forgiving than mesh, so try true to size and check the instep height. Clean with a soft damp cloth only, since brushes scratch and permanently dull a moulded surface.
adidas effectively invented the modern fashion designer sneaker partnership. Yohji Yamamoto's Y-3 came first, then Stella McCartney from 2004, then Jeremy Scott, Raf Simons and Alexander Wang, and on the music side a line that runs from Run-DMC in 1986 through Pharrell Williams, Bad Bunny, Beyonce and an Original Forever collection with Oasis. What separates adidas's record is that it hands over authorship rather than colour palettes, which is why its collaborations produce genuinely strange objects. A blue ribbed runner is what that policy looks like when nobody sands off the edges.
The shoe is defined by a ribbed, sculpted outer shell that sits over the upper and replaces the usual panel and overlay logic with something closer to a carapace. In Royal Blue the shell, the upper and the tooling share a colour family, so the form is read through the way light breaks across the ridges rather than through contrast blocking. adidas has an established taste for making construction visible: the adidas 1 of 2005 was marketed as the world's first intelligent shoe with a microprocessor performing five million calculations a second to adjust cushioning, and springblade replaced foam entirely with splayed blades. The Jellyfish is that instinct pointed at shape instead of mechanism.
