Designed by Bruce Kilgore and released on 11 November 2021 as part of Nike's Air Force 1 line. This release has a leather upper in White/White/Metallic Gold/Flat Gold. The Air Force 1 is the Nike shoe that stopped being a basketball shoe and became clothing. From the 1980s onward it sat alongside Air Jordans and Air Max models as a fixture of mainstream American youth dress, and it kept that place through the 1990s and 2000s as casual and athleisure wardrobes absorbed it. The Lucky Charms treatment takes that familiar white canvas and loads it with symbols, which only works because the base shoe is so widely understood that you can decorate it without confusing anyone. This is the women's 07 LX build, the version Nike uses for premium material and detail work, so the charm motifs are the reason to buy rather than a sticker on top of a standard pair.
Charms want a plain outfit or the whole thing turns into a costume. Recipe one: straight leg mid blue jeans, a white tank and a black leather jacket, letting the detail sit as jewellery at the ankle. Recipe two: a cream knit dress with white socks pulled up, a soft look where the shoe supplies all the hardware. This is a going out and daytime shoe, sturdy enough for long walks because of the cupsole but too white for wet season streets. The women's last is narrow, so try a half size up if you are between sizes. Clean the leather with a foam cleaner and a soft brush, and never soak the charm details.
The AF1's reach came from the same machine that made Nike a cultural brand rather than a sports one: the 1984 Michael Jordan signing, the Spike Lee directed Mars Blackmon advertising and the 1988 Just Do It line that gave the company a voice outside sport. Nike also learned early that borrowed imagery is a live wire. Its unauthorised 1987 use of the Beatles' Revolution ended in a lawsuit and the ads were pulled in March 1988. A themed AF1 like this one is the clean version of a borrowed motif: charms are ornament, not somebody's copyright fight.
LX in Nike's naming marks the upgraded material and detail tier, and on the 07 that shows in the trim and the extras rather than in a different shape. The Air Force 1 profile is unchanged: a thick cupsole, a chunky toe and the tall heel panel that has made it survivable through decades of fashion turns. Nike Air underneath is a pressurised gas unit sealed into the midsole, the cushioning idea Nike made a design feature from the 1987 Air Max onward. On a white base, charm and applique details are the first things to soil, so handle them separately from the leather. The women's cut runs slimmer through the forefoot than the standard AF1 last, which is worth knowing before you size.
