The Air Jordan line exists because Nike signed Michael Jordan in 1984 and turned an endorsement into a business of its own, one that eventually became a separate brand. The Air Jordan 5 sits in the run of models that carried that project through its most confident years, and the Retro programme is how those shapes stay in circulation.
