Culture Note™
Designed by Peter Moore and part of Nike's Dunk line. This release has a suede upper in Coconut Milk/Flax/Sail. Flax is a pale natural tone named after the plant, and choosing it for a Next Nature Dunk is not an accident: the whole line is about what the shoe is made from, so the colour is asked to look like raw material rather than like dye. Next Nature is Nike's programme for product built with content, and it sits alongside Nike Grind, the company's long running system for feeding manufacturing scrap and worn shoes back into new product and surfaces. Putting that on a women's Dunk Low, one of the most wanted silhouettes on the market, is how the argument reaches people who would otherwise ignore it.
Wear it with off white wide leg trousers and a cream knit for a full tonal look where the shoe finishes the outfit without interrupting it. Or contrast it with dark indigo denim and a black tee, letting the flax lift the bottom of a dark outfit. Best for daytime, dry weather, travel and casual work environments. Take your regular women's size; Dunk Lows fit close across the toe and open up after a week. Brush the upper dry before any wet cleaning, use mild soap sparingly since materials can water mark, and dry away from direct sun to keep the tone even.
The Dunk Low went from a specialist shoe to a wardrobe staple in a very short time, and women's colourways drove much of that. Nike's models have been status markers in mainstream dress since the 1980s, and the neutral, natural palettes are the ones that carried the silhouette into offices, studios and everyday adult wardrobes rather than keeping it on the resale market. Next Nature adds a second reason to buy beyond the shape. If you want a sneaker whose story is about materials rather than about who wore it, this is the version that supports the conversation.
content replaces virgin material in the upper, which changes how the shoe handles: softer, more matte and without the hard gloss of new leather. In flax, that matte finish is an advantage, because a natural tone with a shine looks synthetic while a natural tone without one looks like the material it is named after. The panel layout is the standard Dunk Low arrangement, tonal overlays framing the Swoosh, with the stitching left visible as texture. The court sole below, foam over rubber, follows Nike's founding conviction from the waffle iron era that the outsole is engineering. Women's grading gives a narrower heel.
