Ekiden borrows its name from Japanese road relay racing, where teams pass a sash between runners over long distances, and it is one of the few running traditions where the team matters more than the individual. Building a pack around it suits the Zoom Fly 5, which is the workhorse of Nike's plated family rather than its star. The Zoom Fly sits directly beneath the Vaporfly, the 2017 shoe that combined ZoomX foam with a full length carbon fibre plate and produced marathon improvements peer research measured at up to 4.2 percent. Expect a firmer and heavier ride than a Vaporfly, which is exactly why it lasts long enough to be worth the money.
