Released on 5 May 2021 and part of adidas's Forum line. This release has a leather upper in Cloud White/Cloud White/Core Black. White with black is the Forum Low reduced to structure. Strip the team colour out of a basketball shoe and what remains is the architecture: the strap over the instep, the padded collar, the cupsole and the three stripes down the side. That is why this colourway outsells the bright ones over time, because it lets a shoe designed for a court behave like a shoe designed for a wardrobe. adidas has two ways of keeping old sport shoes alive, faithful reissue and quiet recolouring, and monochrome versions of loud silhouettes are the most reliable version of the second approach.
Monochrome shoes work with almost any palette, so use them to anchor. Black wide leg trousers with a white tee and a black cap keeps everything inside the shoe's own two colours, and light wash denim with a grey sweatshirt softens the contrast for daytime. The bulk means slim tapered trousers can look off, so favour a straighter leg. Sizing runs true on this shape. Clean the white leather with a soft brush and mild soap before marks set, use an eraser block along the sidewall, and keep the hook and loop strap clear of fluff so it continues to fasten properly.
adidas got its second life through music rather than sport. Run-DMC released My Adidas on 29 May 1986 having written it unpaid, and the endorsement deal that followed was the first between a musical act and an athletic company, a moment Questlove has called hip hop's tipping point. The basketball silhouettes of that era travelled straight from courts into that culture, then into terrace and casual dressing across Europe. A black and white Forum Low is the most wearable survivor of that lineage, recognisable to anyone who knows the mark and neutral enough for anyone who does not.
A white leather upper carrying black Three Stripes and trim, with an ankle strap adding a second closure over the laces and a rubber cupsole underneath. The Forum is a heavier, more structured shoe than adidas' flat terrace silhouettes, with more padding at the collar and a taller sidewall, so it supports the foot rather than sitting under it. In white and black the panel seams and the stripe edges become the visible detail, which means poor cleaning shows immediately: grey creasing across the vamp and a dulled sidewall will age the shoe faster than actual wear. The trade for that upkeep is a shoe that goes with almost everything.
