Culture Note™

The Air Jordan 1 is the shoe that started everything, designed by Peter Moore with Bruce Kilgore after Nike signed a Chicago Bulls rookie on 26 October 1984 to a six year deal worth 2.5 million dollars, roughly three times any other contract in the league. Nike expected about 3 million dollars over three years. The initial 50,000 pairs sold out and the shoe passed 150 million dollars. The Low is that same panel geometry cut below the ankle, and Game Royal is one of the palettes the model wears best: a saturated blue against white, unfussy, closer to a team kit than a fashion statement. It reads as the original blocking with the ceremony removed, which is exactly why it has outlasted louder colourways.
