New Balance 2002r Protection Pack Eclipse

Released on 1 October 2023 and part of New Balance's 2002R line. This release has a suede upper in Eclipse/Magnet/Black. Eclipse is the darkest reading of the Protection Pack, a treatment that takes the 2002R apart and rebuilds it with its structure showing. The 2002R is a running shape brought into the lifestyle line, panelled and layered by design, and this pack pushes that layering forward as the subject rather than the background. An eclipse palette suits it, dark and total, so the shoe reads as one heavy object rather than as a set of parts. New Balance spent decades making shoes nobody looked at, which is exactly why it can now make one that asks to be examined closely without seeming desperate about it.
