Two ways to run the adidas Samba OG White Burgundy Gum. Everyday: cropped straight-leg denim or wide chinos with a break just above the laces, plain white or cream tee, so the burgundy reads as the accent colour and the gum sole ties into tan leather. Smarter: charcoal or olive pleated trousers, an oxford shirt untucked, and the Samba doing the job loafers used to do at a Friday office. On fit, the shoe runs narrow with a slightly long last. Normal or narrow feet take true to size. Wide feet or high insteps should go half a size up, because leather softens across the midfoot in three to seven wears but the T-toe never gains width. Spray the suede before first wear, brush dust off dry, and keep the gum sole out of wet mud, since gum yellows fast.

The Samba escaped football early. British terrace culture adopted it, skateboarders and flatland BMX riders made it a street shoe through the 1990s, it turned up in Trainspotting in 1996, and adidas eventually built the Samba ADV in 2017 for the skaters who had already claimed it. The 2020s brought a full resurgence and a wave of collaborations: Jonah Hill in November 2020, Pharrell's Humanrace in November 2023, Grace Wales Bonner in May 2024 and Dingyun Zhang the same month. It even crossed into politics, with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak spotted in a pair in April 2024. The white and burgundy version rides all of that while sidestepping the black and white pair everyone owns.

The upper is smooth white leather, the traditional Samba build, with suede overlays carrying the Collegiate Burgundy across the Three Stripes, the heel tab and the T-toe. That T-toe is not decoration: it is a reinforcement panel over the toe box where a football boot took the most abuse, and it is why the silhouette holds its shape years in. Gold foil Samba lettering sits on the lateral side, tonal stitching keeps the seams quiet, and the tongue carries the blue label. Underneath is the gum rubber outsole with a herringbone tread, low to the ground with almost no stack, which is why the shoe feels flat and connected rather than cushioned. An OrthoLite sockliner does the softening inside.
