Designed by Kanye West and released on 22 February 2020 as part of the Yeezy Boost 350 line. This release has a primeknit upper in Flax/Flax/Flax. Flax is the Boost 350 V2 at its most agricultural. The name comes from the fibre plant rather than from any colour chart, which is exactly the naming logic the label used from the start with Oxford Tan, Turtle Dove, Moonrock and Desert Rat: materials and terrain, never seasons. The result is a warm sand tan that sits between Butter and Sesame in the family and reads as raw and undyed. This one carries a re release history, having appeared in 2020 and returned later, which tells you what the market thought of it. The 350 V2 launched on 24 September 2016 and became the decade's most recognisable silhouette, and Flax is one of the tones that made it wearable rather than collectable.
Utility
Warm tan is the most forgiving colour in the family for Indian daylight. First recipe: olive fatigue trousers with a cuffed hem, a white tee, a tan cap, so the shoe and the accessories agree. Second recipe: dark indigo jeans, a cream knit polo and no visible socks, which takes it into a dinner without looking like sportswear. Occasion: daily wear, travel, warm weather. Fit is snug and narrow through the midfoot, so a half size up is the standard recommendation. The 350 V2 is the shoe that made release day a mainstream cultural event, with announced drop times, deliberately limited stock, bot buying and a resale economy that the industry then adopted as standard practice. At its height the partnership generated roughly two billion dollars a year for adidas, and Forbes in 2020 called that rise one of the great retail stories of the century. A re released colourway like Flax is a direct measure of that demand, since restocking rather than replacing became a strategy in itself. adidas terminated the partnership on 25 October 2022 after Kanye West's antisemitic public remarks, which the company stated were unacceptable, hateful and dangerous.
Construction
Primeknit forms the upper, the one piece machine knitted construction that gives this model its sock like fit without traditional panels, and Flax runs a single warm tan across it so the knit texture is the only visual break. Boost underneath is the expanded TPU pellet foam that supplies the bounce and the speckled surface. On tan colourways the sole is toned rather than left bright white, which keeps the shoe reading as one continuous object from collar to ground. There is no visible logo, in keeping with the line's anti branding position. The practical trade off with a warm undyed looking knit is honest: it will darken at the flex creases and pick up dust at the toe faster than a dark colourway.
