Designed by Peter Moore and released on 10 July 2024 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in University Blue/Midnight Navy/Sail. First in Flight is a phrase with two meanings on this shoe. It is a North Carolina state motto, and North Carolina is where Michael Jordan played before Nike signed him on 26 October 1984, a programme Jordan Brand still outfits alongside Georgetown, Cincinnati and Michigan. It is also a description of the Air Jordan 1 itself, the first shoe in the line, designed by Peter Moore with Bruce Kilgore, produced for Jordan on 17 November 1984 and released to the public on 1 April 1985. This is the women's High OG, which means original specification rather than a reworked pattern, so the name and the build are pointing at the same history.
Two fits. Collegiate: light wash straight jeans cuffed once above the collar, a white tee, and a navy sweatshirt, which is the most honest way to wear this shoe. Or sharp: black tailored trousers cropped at the ankle, a fitted knit, and a long coat, using the High as the piece that keeps tailoring from getting stiff. Highs need a shorter or cuffed hem or the collar disappears. Women's sizing runs narrow, so go up half a size for wide feet or thick socks. Brush and condition the leather, clean the midsole before grime sets, and rotate the pair so the crease line does not deepen into one fold.
The High OG is the format that carries the full Air Jordan mythology: Nike's Spike Lee directed advertising with Lee playing Mars Blackmon, the Banned campaign built on the NBA's 51 percent white shoe rule and Nike's decision to pay the 5,000 dollar per game fine, and the hip hop lineage running through 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube and Jay-Z. Jordan Brand's own athletes now include WNBA players Maya Moore and Jordin Canada alongside Jayson Tatum, Zion Williamson and Luka Doncic. A women's High OG with a Carolina motto on it is the collegiate root of the whole thing, said plainly.
OG spec gives you the full high collar, the original panel proportions, the Wings logo high on the ankle and Nike Air branding on the tongue, over a rubber cupsole with the concentric pivot circle. The upper is leather in the standard set: perforated toe box, mudguard, eyestay, heel counter and padded collar. The women's High is built on a narrower last than the men's, so the ankle and midfoot hold closer. A High creases lower and cleaner than a Mid because the collar keeps the foot back in the shoe. Condition the leather occasionally, lace firmly through the upper eyelets, and let the pair dry naturally after wet weather.
